Morning all! Apologies if this is a previous question.....

Have 110 County 300tdi with deep dish alloys and 30mm hub spacers. Am looking to get winter tyres to go on my spare steels that can also be used for farm work so more agressive the better. The road tyres I have on the alloys are General Grabber 235/85/16.

Can I simply buy mud tyres this size or will I need to change with the aggressive tread etc? Tyres will only be used a handful of times in the year but as I am a plumber, sitting at home in the warm when it's 10" deep in snow outside is not an option!

Any advice gratefully recieved!

Mud tyres and winter tyres are different - winter tyres are generally softer compound and designed to try and keep as much tyre in contact with the road as possible.

If you don't go mudding then mud tyres are not for you. I know people who stick these on their landy yet most of their journeys are on asphalt roads. :doh: But no, these are relatively hard compound and while they may prove useful in thick, deep & slushy snow, they won't be very useful on ice or even on compacted snow.

I'd suggest all terrains, that way, you get a good allrounder. Jack of all trades, master of none. - Which is kinda what you need if you're doing a bit of everything. (unless you have the money, space and insanity to buy multiple sets)

General Grabber ATs (not so much the older AT2s) are really good imo. I currently have BF Goodrich T/A KO's on my disco but will replace them with General Grabber ATs when they're due for replacement.

Cheers Richm, Had the some sort of Grabber AT on my old Santana ps10 which got us through last year quite nicely so will take advice and get a set of those. I take it as they are not stupidly knobbly I can go with same tyre sizes?

Best thing you can do is learn to drive, in slipery conditions, Tyres may be a contribution to grip , but at the end of the day its the driver...., this year I was driving around on Road tryes in all that snow no problems,

Yep, thanks for that. Obv I can drive well enough on the snow but as I can buy and store a spare set on steels will obv make the most of if!
