Is this a stupid question? :eek:I want to replace my Defender 90 suspension dampers but how do I know if the vehicle (X reg) I bought a year ago has standard or +2ins lift? I assume if its very high its been lifted but +2ins would that be noticeable. Can I measure ride height or spring length?

They'll be exactly what you informed your insurance company that they are.
You know, that bit where they ask about any modifications from factory standard

Just above the bit that says if you don't tell them the truth then your insurance is invalid

****ezen, never told them I put a mag mount CB ariel on the roof....:lalala:

To complicate matters the springs tend to settle over the course of their life, so it's hard to tell once they've been on for a few years. I put new standard height coil springs on mine last year and people asked me if I'd lifted it. So there's quite a bit of natural variation and the difference between a new standard setup and a 5 year old lift kit may not be that great.

Good point Brown. My Landy looks similar to Jonnyb1990 which I assume is standard, I should fit new springs with dampers I guess anyway.
Thanks all.

Looks very like mine. That's standard height.

As has been said above, if the springs are all rusty they're probably Land Rover ones. If they've been replaced then they might be e.g. Bearmach blue or Britpart yellow, or some other aftermarket colour.

Whilst your at it, check the state of the spring pans that bolt to the axles and the retainers (if fitted). These do tend to rust away in my experience but aren't too expensive to replace. Here's me doing mine last autumn http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f16/springs-things-239690.html
