Hi Folks,
This might be a really stupid question, but I was fitting a rear diff guard to my D2 and there was this 'thing' bolted onto the nose of the diff and then a steel cable looped onto a fixing on the axle. Had a look in the workshop manual but couldn't see what it is - does anybody know what it's for?

someone has fitted a front diff to the rear. that is the harmonic damper

it's a harmonic balancer... would vibrate bad without it

Thanks! Solved a little personal mystery for me! Thankfully the original bolts were just long enough to reuse with the diff guard as the ones supplied were obviously designed for the front diff as they were too short with the balancer in place.

Anti vibration damper for rear axle. Front and rear ones are fitted to the petrol p38
