right,here goes,my partner is on disability,the landy is our only mode of transport,it also gets used for pay and play days,and will be getting used for green laning,because our lass is on disability and the landy is our family car also,i could get it so that the road tax on the landy is free,by swaping it over and classing it as disabilty car,,the only thing is would it be worth it, would the insurance go up,and also dont think it would go down well with using it for off roading,what would you lot do,just leave it as is or change it over?????????????

How much road tax would it save? Weigh that against the probable rise in insurance too..

Edit. re-read your post, you're paying tax now, right? If insurance will accept a disabled vehicle going off road (should do otherwise play the discrim card) will the insurance go down too?

I have a mate with his tax on his Disco paid for by disability. He has one arm and one leg and uses a hand control system so true genuine case.

He greenlanes it and offroads it (albeit the offroad is quite tame) with no problems.

Insurance wise, you will find very few companies that will cover you for offroad stuff, but if they try and tell you that you are not covered for greenlaning then challenge them and point out the fact that a greenlane is a legal highway that you must have tax, mot and insurance to drive therefore they have to cover it! Had this a couple of times and once explained they have always given cover and put it in writing for me.

I accept that when I go offroad i'm not covered.

cheers for the info crazymac,my insurance at the moment i am coverd for non competitive off roading and green lane use,.think i will give it a go,ours would be genuine case too,the only difference been it would be our lasses disability ,me driving,,,(which is allowed i think).as our lass has never drove...for instance we could have a paid for car out of her disability money but with me as driver,,but no point as we have the landy

the key to having the vehicle registered as disabled is that it has to be used wholly and exclusively either by the person who is registered disabled, or, if not a driver, wholly and exclusively for the benefit of the disabled person.

Pretty hard to enforce though, and how far does it go ? To the letter of the law, she should always be with you when using the vehicle. However, if you were to go shopping in it, you could argue that this is for the benefit of the disabled person and so on.

The insurance should remain unaffected by the class of vehicle (i.e. disabled, or PLG or whatever) The taxation class of the vehicle should not in anyway affect the insurance when changing to/from disabled.

My main car vectra has been taxed by my mums disability form 4 the last 3 years n don't think she as been in the car more than 3 times ( my dad drives) n I ave never ad a problem

All insurance should cobver ya for green lanes, even if its on a fiesta.

yeh i know goonarmy,just stating what it said on policy...gona leave it as is and just pay the road tax anyway
