I noticed that it is a wee bit tappy, I put some tappet cleaner in the engine which has to run for 500miles before i clear out the oil, However, what oil do you guys use? The car has 80K miles on it so should i look to use something a little thicker then usual?

Would probably help the folks here if you were to let us know what engine you've got.
If it's got hydraulic tappets then you can buy an additive available from Halfords or online (Wynns I think) which does help free up sticky tappets.
