Hello folks.

As stated in the title. I have remove the sodden carpet to let it dry. I have already sealed both sunroofs as they leaked terribly. I am confident they are now fine. Could the carpet issue be due to the amount of water that had got in prior to my ownership?

There are some picture in the link below. There is rust around the cargo hoops and the large centre disc which I assume has something to do with the fuel yank mount?

Edit: I should say the sun roof have been sealed for 2-3mths now...

Kind regards

Ugh...stupid PB! It's a public album and I can see it when logged out. I have now just pasted some thumbs you can hopefully see?

I spent two weeks completely stripping out the hole interior in my D2 and going round fixing all the water leaks
What I found is your leak could be related to more than one fault
But because the boot floor in higher than the rest of the cars floors it would rule out some of them
The one I'd check first is the tailgate fitment its the most likely
With the carpet removed dry the floor as best as and get inside and get someone to hose the tailgate round the edge and see if any water comes in
To get my one to stop leaking I had to adjust the tailgate in every way and still had to give it a twist just to get it to fit right
There are some other areas than let water in but try that first

The tailgate could be a possibility. Although the seal around the door never looks like it lets water in. Thanks.

Here are the possibilities from experience. Some are easy others mean its ####ed lol

Alpine windows
Easy to check by removing the plastic surrounds. Easy to seal inside.

Roof to gutter seals
The roof is steel and is one piece including the gutter. On occasions the water gets inbetween the seal of the roof and outer quarter panel and rusts letting water in. Strip back the roof lining to expose the joints.check for rust marks.

Towbar wiring grommets
Sometimes the wiring grommets are loose or even not put in the areas where the wiring comes into the boot floor. I myself have left one out and piles of mud have been forced in.

The boot
The boot floor itself can be the culprit if there are small holes due to rust letting water in. Once the sound proofing is wet it can take weeks to dry out.

Tailgate
As mentioned in previous post

Rear lights
If these are not sealed correctly they will let water in. Sometimes if rear light guards are fitted, these can let water in.

Sunroof
Is it sealed from outside or inside. What about the drainage tube?

Rear wash wipe
The rear washer pipe enters the car at the passenger bulkhead, goes along the roof lining to the rear door. If this pipe connection at the rear is loose then this lets water drain in.

Petrol tank access panel
In raining weather, spray from under the car can sometimes enter here if not sealed correctly

Hope this helps

Thanks for that!

The sun roofs are sealed form the outside. Am confident they are sorted as I have seen none of the roof lining getting wet and stained as it previously was. The petrol cap thingy sounds a possible culprit as this is looking fairly rusty. I'll try and dry that out and seal it up as best as possible. I'm hoping it was just residue from the sheer amount of water the rear sunroof was letting in when it was leaking. It poured in the last time before I sealed it!

The sound proofing can hold many litres of water. When I stripped mine out it weighed more than I could almost lift

Indeed. It was a fair weight to lug about. It's going in the extension loft for a week as it gets very warm up there. :)

mine too was exactly the same as yours. my leak was coming from the sunroof. now sealed. the underlay was sodden, so i took it out and just left the carpet. the rusty disc is the access panel for the fuel pump, mine rusted like yours. would be surprised if water got in from there. as green hornet says, check rear light lenses. i did get water coming through there. stopped it by taking them out and giving them a good clean where they join with the body. it was quite dirty, so probably not sealing well.

Thanks. That's a little reassuring. The carpet is now drying out. Need the boot liner to turn up now as without carpet everything I put in the boot rolls around a lot! :)

The only dry interior of a disco is like mine. Lol

Stripped out all the carpet in the end. Easy to wash out when this happens.
