After a long night of worry I have now got my TD5 to fire. It died as a result of drowning in some deep water. However, what failed was not a hydrolocking engine but water in the ECU/ECM brain.
Drying it out cured all the strangeness, the mad dashboard lights and got it to fire!
I am now thinking about getting a snorkel, but I think that the location of the ECU still makes it very vunrable, as the water can still get up through the drain holes on the bottom of the plastic mount, and drown it..!
I was wondering if anyone had paid this any thought and come up with a solution, I believe from my LR man you can get extention looms so it can be moved, but has anyone tried to waterproof it in situ? wrap it in a plastic bag, silicone it or partially block the drain holes?
