Time to fit this lot. Been sat on the bench waiting for some spare time and its here..... thanks Govt.

Not sure where to put the tank migh simply use a 5l fuel can, but whatever I will post up the install and what I reckon it has done for the old girl aside of sticking another bit of weight on her.

svo goes straight in my tank no fuss,if i get any problems i change the £4 fuel filter..

surely adding all this costly kit totally defys the cheaper cost of svo..

Thats simply not true, I have run the 110 through the winter on 95% SVO without a single hiccup and whilst the mileage has been pretty low I have saved over the cost of regular diesel £500 plus in less than a year.

It cost all in about £800 so by xmas I reckon the conversion will owe me nothing and then I will genuinely save between 45 and 50p a litre.

The water injection is for cleaning the internals - the one downside to veg oil is that long term it can bugger your motor up - NO savings then!

So despite being scrupulous about operating the twin tank system I rckon water or water and meths injection is safest.

Single tanking a Tdi will kill it - no one will argue with that. Ring gumming wrecks Di engines as night follows day.

So if yer clunker is heading for the scrapper in a matter of a few months stick some svo in it - but do tell the poor sod who might buy the engine he will need a rebore and pistons if not more while you are writing the reciept.
 
well - before coming up here I usually did around 25 - 30k a year on SVO - poured straight in, usually from those very handily sized 3l square bottles from Tesco.

100% during the warmer weather - adding a gallon of petrol to a tank during the winter.

I've been doing that for many many years, - and I know many many others who have done way more miles than me without issue.

I'm sure there will be a few that claim to have had issues apparently caused due to not pre-heating - but that facts are (even just based on the numbers of folks who don't pre-heat) that it is not needed in a good engine, that is properly maintained

£800 is a lot of money to spend on a system that isn't truly proven to be required.

have seen no evidence to support that

so having 2 tanks does the svo still not go into the engine?

Hmm what evidence have you sought?

Keep sticking it in the (cold - big clue) engine. WTF do these engineers know any how.

Just need to come and speak to you and your $$$$$ consultancy. LMAO.

a while before we came up here I was seeing 20+ land rovers a week, a large % were running on either SVO or FWVO - none had an issue that could have been directly attributed to the fuel

we even developed a ''system'' - a couple of 3 way Pollack valves, a flat plate heat exchanger out of a combi boiler and a few temp sensors, and managed to sell a few installs - but, in light of the over whelming cost/benefit evidence we stopped as i could just not justify that there really was a need to preheat

£800 buys a lot of fuel, filters and garage time
 
Roughly it buys about 3250 miles in a 110 so in the scheme of things not huge but fair enough its not for everyone.

I posted this up for peeps who may have thought of veg oil and what I reckon is the final piece in the jigsaw for safe long term use in what most people reckon is not a good engine for veg oil.

Might make it go a bit faster/quieter/smoother/economical than she does now.
 
svo is only ever run in mine in the warmer months so no need for fancy heaters etc..its never failed to not start,it runs smoother and quieter..

for me £800 would buy me over a years worth of fuel
 
I ran a 1988 diesel truck on vegetable oil straight from macro for two years. Used a ratio of about 1 part diesel to 3 parts vegetable oil primarily so it started OK mainly in the winter. Bunged it straight into the tank, ran fine and smelled even finer. (enjoyed the bemused look on people faces when the whiff rolled along behind me!!)


I ended that 30-40p a litre dream quite suddenly though, doing 90 down the m4 on the way to the M4 bridge into Wales, blew a cylinder. Stupidly thought I'd be able to limp to my job in Chepstow, stumped up to cross the bridge, then thought it was a bad idea and turned around at the roundabout on the other side. Sold the truck for £50 to a scrappy the same day...bye bye first car!

Anyway, I digress...just bung it in, I had no troubles whatsoever. This was in a 4 cylinder Mitsubishi Shogun for what it's worth.
