Hey guys!

Theres a Garrett GT18V VTG turbo available to me. Its from a Mercedes 220 CDI OM611 DE22LA motor.

I was considering of swapping the original GT2052 with this vtg turbo so that I can get rid of the lag! VTGs have a very wide ar ratio and are much more efficient than normal turbos.

Has any one done this before? What were the results? Is it worth all the work?

Please help!

I reckon its more trouble than its worth. But nothing ventured nothing gained as they say. There's not much wrong with the stock turbo.

Thanks shifty!

Yeah the original turbo is alright but I just wanna test a VTG.. I think it will make a lot of difference.

Do you reckon it will put the ecu in limp mode cuz of higher than standard boost? VTGs dont have a wastegate.

If the boost goes above about 1.0bar then yes the ECU will switch to limp mode. You need to get a black box gizmo that fools the ECU into thinking the turbo is boosting less than it really is. I have one and my turbo boosts to 1.4bar on max but can be turned up to about 2.0bar max. Obviously you need to think about fuelling so a modified mapping is also required to do things properly. Along with a larger intercooler to make best use of the increased boost.

Has anyone used the VNT? how much power increase does it give and whats it like to drive a td5 with this?

Cheers!

No ive never used it as they were developing it when i sold my td5.
Go to the non members section of the discovery owners club and ask the question someone is bound to have one fitted.
If it does away with the lag its got to be really good.
