Hi

I have marked the VCU with 4 blobs of tippex and driven it for a while.
The front prop marks are out of line with the others now, which means the VCU is working, however, the rear prop marks are still in line with those on the VCU body.

Is the rear prop joined to the VCU body, with just the front prop slipping, or should both props slip and all marks be out of line?

[pedant] Actually it means that the VCU isn't seized, but not necessarily working! [/pedant]

But otherwise correct. Reassuring, isn't it?

it does, at least, mean that it wont screw up the rest of your drive train - yu just may not get 4wd.
