Question:

I'm looking to buy a second hand Range Rover L322 and meanwhile was looking also at the Disco 4.

How come the values are so high in comparison to the Range? For the price of a reasonably "basic" LR Disco 4, you can get a RR with similar mileage, similar age, much better spec'ed and with a V8 TD instead of a V6.

A thing is worth what you can get for it, if they ask more you can get more of a 'discount'.

Not really a discount, but they get what they want and the customer seems happier.

Bigger cars lose more money as a rule, and the d4 doesn't have the maintenance/ repair costs of the rangey going forward !

The v8 can be problematic plus old rangies are never really worth money.
Also D5 just came out so D4 prices are strong as people dont like the looks of the new one, BUT once all the people get used to the looks and trade their D4 for a D5 the prices will come down maybe 12 months but they will come down, plus people are now nervous of whats going to happen to pre Euro 6 diesels tax wise.
Very last D4 were Ad-blue Euro 6 motors.
The disco is a much more useful load carrier, understated and less in your face than a rangie so much so people dont even notice them which is great and of course they dont assume you are a ccok!

I think they are pretty much the same machine underneath the skin.
Rr sport also has ACE

I am actually comparing to the normal Range, not the RRS.
The RRS is useless. It's a Disco that is less practical (and as heavy).

Lookswise, I really don't care. Same for the image. (I live 2m away from Monaco, so even a brand new Range does get anyone to look up).

Purely going by 'spec', I compare a 3.6 or 4.4 V8 td with a 3.0 V6 td.
On the upside, the Disco is more practical.

The RR has a reputation for 'repairs'.
Only question would be how much more reliable a Disco 4 would be... It also has air suspension, same electronics,...

From what I have read the D4 is more reliable than the D3 but cracks are starting to appear with cranks snapping/turbo problems and various other issues, but still not in the same league as the D3 oil pump failures.
I run a D3 and its been spot on for 2.5 years now, but like all old land rovers I would not recommend one to anyone!

The boot of a full fat rangie it still small compared to the D3/4 boot

Brilliant ! "I would not recommend one" :lol:

Understand the boot is indeed smaller and that is why I am attracted to a Disco 4. Then again, I have had 2 Shogun LWB's and they're equally roomy.

Cranks snapping and turbos... not cheap these problems
