The weather finally stayed nice enough so I could finally get the cylinder head off the engine! The head gasket had indeed blown through on no.5 cylinder; unfortunately, the hot gases have tracked through and created more damage on both the block and the head! It wasn't unexpected and I've bought another engine to replace this one.
