Just recently I have started hearing a fan in the engine bay........before you give a wise arse comment like "yer the two big thinmys at the front" :D

Sound seems to be coming from around the battery area, maybe an ECU cooler ?? seems to come on even when the engine is cold ?

2004 Td4..........

Any ideas ? Thanks

Cheers mate, any cause for concern considering its not exactly been "that" cold here ?

Come to think of it we drove 12 miles the other day and it was still on when we reached our destination some 15 - 20 mins later ?

No need for concern, all they do is help heat the coolant so you get heat through quicker and it also brings the engine temp up for emmisions regs and the only kick in at a pre determined temp. Used to work wi BMW and ford and their motors had them anorl

The predetermind temp is exactly what im worried about, is there a sensor for this that could be playing up or too sensitive maybe ?

wouldn't worry, if it's only just started doing when the weather turned cold. the amount of fuel it uses is miniscule, like a teaspoon every six years or summink

The FBH kicks in when the temperature drops below 5 degrees celcius.

Sounds like a jet engine when you turn the engine off, and can drop little sparks on the ground - very alarming if you are not expecting it.
