Is metric tyre size 235 x 75 x 16 a direct replacement for 7.50 x 16 ?
a 7.50 x16 is equivalent of a 265/85 x 16 and the same as a 33x12.50 x 15
approx 874.5 mm tall
a 235/75 x 16 is approx 776mm tall
approx 4" difference in total height
hence 235/75 will happily fit a classic rangey 7.50 on the other hand needs mods
a fair old difference

The 235 bit is the width in mm so 235 is approx 9 1/4 inches. 265 is nearly 10.5 inches. the nearest direct size equivalent would be a 205 in metric. I've got 265/70/16 bfg's on my 110 and if I stand one next to a 7.50 x 16 it's much wider. The second number in a metric tyre size is the height of the tyre from the rim expressed as a percentage of the width.
