Ok this may sound dumb but is there really two level on the Auto Gear Box lever?

According to Manual

A spring loaded catch built into the handle of the gear selector lever, restricts movement of the lever, thereby preventing inadvertent gear selection. The catch has two pressures:
• the first pressure enables gear changes to be made within a single range of gears (High range OR Low range).
• the second pressure enables the selector to be moved from one range of gears to another (ie. from High TO Low).

I always push the "catch" to its maximum (or second pressure) am I doing this all wrong for the past year and half

Thks

There are 2 pressures but like the headlamp flash you would be hard pressed to tell, I just pull mine up to change gear.

No doubt when new the detent position was more obvious...over time the detent will wear making it less obvious where the 'second' position would be!

Careful with the force you apply to the lever, mine snapped whilst in reverse backing out of my mechanics garage. Luckily he had a spare......i swear my P38 prefers his garage to my drive:(

Nar - can't feel in mine either

also I can move between D and 3 without using the switch? is that normal?
Yes....that was done so you could could quickly knock it out of lock up or 4th if towing or descending

On an Auto?

Yes, why??

You can feel the difference in mine, I can pull the catch up to change gear by barely applying and pressure, but to get it high enough to change range, I have to grip the selector quite tightly.

The highbeam/flash however seems to have about .5mm of movement between them. Although that is more likely because that switchpack on that stalk seems damaged as the indicators turn off with the slightest movement of the wheel and I recently lost the ability to cycle through the info display.

You guys telling me its ment to be like that?
I can feel mine very clearly and i thought it was a worn spring or somthing lol
Pull the catch up easly then half way theres a notable change in the pressure needed
