I've got a series 2 with old style LWB riveted wheels, which I've had shotblasted and powder coated to give a good quality finish.

Currently I've had the (tubeless) tyres/tubes refited as per original, on 4 wheels, but it did strike me highly unlikely that the rims would leak.
I've got another 5 rims to do, so wondering if tubes are necessary.

Anybody using old type rims without tubes??
If so has any rim sealant method been used.

I believe the bead on tubeless rims not only keeps the tyres inflated but prevents the tyres from leaving the rims. When we had the new tyres fitted to the series 3 the chap went out and bought new tubes and advised against not having them fitted, Didn't charge much either £45 per tyre with tube and balance for some polish M+S tyre (can't remember the name now)

Run fine, get some quite harsh treatment over rocks and stuff off-roading and never had any problems to date using tubeless tyres.
