Hi can someone be kind enough as to educate me on the procedure of changing
the rear shocks on my 1990 Isuzu Trooper SWB

Is this a trick question?
AFAIK you just take the old ones off and put new ones on LOL. What
have I missed there?

That would be the logical first step. The last step would be to bolt
the new ones on and bolt wheels back on if applicable. Have we left
anything out?

To do each side or end at a time.

I'd guess that if he doesn't jack it up the shocks will be much harder to
get off, and the whole chassis/body may drop too low onto the wheel to allow
the shocks to be replaced correctly. It may also be easier to remove the
wheels ... though I'm not an expert on Troopers ..

Are the shocks like some kind of hydraulic ram which hold the weight
of the Trooper? I don't think so. There are vehicles with that kind of
ram with remote valving and hydraulic system but they are rare [and I
actually own one] but the Trooper isn't one of them AFAIK.

0) Read all instructions here first.

1) Buy New Shocks. Ensure they're the right size/type.
2) Jack up rear end, with blocks/chocks around front wheels.
3) Remove one rear wheel.
4) Undo Bolt holding rear shock base to spring/axle. axle and spring will
drop about 3 to 4 inches under weight of axle.
5) Undo Bolt at top holding rear shock to chassis.
6) Remove Rear shock
7) Place new rear shock in position, bolt onto spring/axle.
8) Lower jack lightly until top of shock is just touching chassis in same
place origional did.
9) Bolt up at top.
10) Jack up again and repeat from step 3 with the other side.
