Hi Guys please could you give me some advice my son owns a Discovery 3 with the ZF6 gearbox. He is about 1000 kms from home and the car is going into restricted performance with Transmission Fault Restricted Gears Available. It happens when the car has been running for 15 min and he is traveling up a slight incline in 6th gear and presses down on the accelerator and the car tries to change down to 5th gear. any ideas what it is and what he can do?
Can he drive the 1000Kms home in command mode or will he damage the gearbox?
Any help will be appreciated.

Without getting the codes read you are guddling about in the dark, it could be something as simple as a knackered battery or something as severe as a new gearbox.
Realise this doesn't help you much but without codes, you're really blindfolded.

Rememebring its a D3 start with the simple stuff first
Do the brake lights work?
Does the cruise still work?
Has he checked the gearbox oil level?
Has he blown an intercooler hose?
Is it charging at the corect voltage?

Thanks Lancorky for your response. I have just managed to get some codes, hope they help. Codes are P0730, P0735, P0729.
