Had both me diffs out today as there is slop in the drive train. however both diffs are set correctly, its had new halfshafts,cv's and drive flanges. had the transferbox cover off and there seems to be a lot of play in all three rows of gears, as in top middle and bottom, almost as if they are are moving up and down. its on a 300tdi manual. Am I right in thinking its rebuild time. I've got parts quotes adding up to £210. that's seal kit, rebuild kit and new shaft. but before I order owt i'm asking have I missed anything or am I going to far into it.
thanks in advance

depends ,having taper bearings there should be no end float on any and condition of bearings ,intermediate can be adjusted by tightening rear nut a little at at time till plays gone ,diff and input by shims ,input shims in rear bearing plate ,diff in front housing ,to rebuild a 300 t/box id think you need 2x frc5564 ,2x stc3185,2x ftc 4939,1 x icv100000,1x 606474,1x frc7871,2x stc1130 and 4x frc6968 diff washers

Cheers James. So if adjustments can't take up the slack then rebuilding will be better than changing another second hand tbox

I've a friend who has done a few in the past and is more than happy to take me through it. And like you say atheist then I know it's q good one
