Has anyone used Trackace or similar products for DIY wheel alignment?

Trackace DIY laser wheel alignment tracking gauge. Poor wheel alignment wastes fuel, damages tyres & increases your CO2 emissions carbon emissions.

I'm about to change my track rod and drag link, and always prefer to do things myself if I have the right tools to do them properly.

There is a part of me which says I could rig something similar up using the laser level from my toolbox with a mirror, but there's a stronger part of me which likes buying new tools.

Does anyone have experience of DIY wheel alignment to share?

Have been watching these on ebay for a bit. Spoke to them via email a while ago and they were working on a 4x4 version and said it would be available late 2011, if they were to go ahead wiv selling it. You can get the normal kit from ebay for £65 to 70 + post. Looks like a good tool to have, if you compare the price to getting your tracking done a few times. Waiting to get one but will try the parallel fishing line method at some point.

What yer trying to do is create 2 parallel lines, one either side of yer car, with the car also parallel to the lines. Start by putting 2 fishing lines either side. Measure distance between line and middle of wheels. Use a common feature on the wheels like the centre boss. Do this at the front. Then space the lines so the car is evenly spaced between the lines at the front. Then measure the rear, then move the lines at the rear so they’re even. Then check the front are even still. Then measure the distance between the lines in front and behind yer car. If they’re different, then move the smallest outwards so they’re the same. Now repeat the above to get the lines and car all parallel. Once this is done you can measure yer wheels to the lines, to see if they’re pulling to one side.
