OK Guys, I should be getting mine back this week (yes complete with light bar before you all start).

Now, never reallt tinkered with engines since an old Talbot back in the eighties (Tappets adjustemnt level was all i got to) That set the background re my experince / knowledge.

BUT, i can read, so apart from Haynes Manuals what would you suggest for:-
1. Manuals books that will help keeping it on the road
2. The tools that I will need to keep it on the road
3. Suppliers of any of the above that you can recommend

My sound a bit daft, but never had to maintain a car before (Company cars) so need your help

Cheers MHM, had a quick look, think i need disc 2, but does anyone know if it goes back to my old 85 110 V8 before i clog up the infernet

or better steel

OK, got Rave downloaded, burnt onto disk, works a treat, everything i ever wanted to know about Defenders........IF you have the V8 Inj.....if you have a post 1992 one....but NOT for an '85 V8 with carbs

So, anyone out there know where i can find something suitable please

Haynes is yer best bet, or RPi Engineering website "RPi Engineering - Specialised Rover Engines" for the info you need.

As for tools, good quality 1/2" drive socket set with six sided burst proof sockets, not the 12 sided Chinese Cheese things you get free with 5 litres of engine oil. 2' breaker bar with 1/2" drive (tenner from most market stalls). Feeler gauge for yer plugs. Lots of screwdrivers. #1 and #2 universal removal tools - Thor do a good #1 for about £30. Combi-spanner set, couple of adjustables, circlip/long nose/standard pliers and a stubby 9/16" AF for prop shafts (easier with a stubby on one side and a combi on t'other) Gear pullers (good ones that will actually pull the skin off a rice pudding), mini grinder with pad disk, 9" grinder for bigger jobs. 40" Hi-lift with some heavy duty axle stands, set of files, tin of Molykote 1000 or similar for re-assembly of components and plenty of spare skin for grafting back onto your knuckles from time to time

if yu cant afford them all - get the "cheese" socket set and replace them one at a time with gooduns when they break.

halfrauds come recomended - with a lifetime warranty.

yer can get snap-on burst proofs for about £40 on Fleabay...

Thanks a faily comp list, just the sort of thing i was looking for, ok, now to push me luck

any SPARE TOOLS as listed needing a good home, cash paid.

alternatively, Halford, Drapers, Snap On etc all seem to have this lot, any recommendations? Don't wanna go to B&Q, spend mopre than a few quid to get the basic kit only to find they are crap.

Focus do a good plier set for a few quid, and they sell the JCB file set for about a tenner. Halfraud professional range socket sets are supposed to be good and guaranteed for life. I e-bay'd the expensive tools and got some bargains and just went hunting round the usual shops to find half decent standard tools.
