Now my machine is all ship shape i am planning a trip to the great lac de saint cassien next month for a spot of carp fishing will i join the AA or have complete confidence in my old lady ?

Join but when it comes to the renewal in a years time it's cheaper to go online or go to a Mobile unit than it is as an already loyal customer crazy I know but true !

Standard AA membership doesn't cover you for European travel. You're best to take out the cover just for the duration of the trip. The cover the AA provide is comprehensive and I don't leave blighty with out it in a Landy!!

Just back from 1400 problem free miles to France and back in an early 95 RR with astro mileage, including trying to break it the day before I left by filling with petrol. Fortune favors the brave, then again... if you break down there may be some laughing and pointing

Does your insurance cover offer breakdown? Don't even know if mine does come to think of it.
Tis the only reason I joined a couple of days ago, needed to get it home to my garage and my tools, I live in a hilly area sooooo - Dads Astra Won't tow it the 16 miles home - Girlfriends Fiat 500 certainly wouldn't do it - Sisters 2003 1.4 Focus, Nope - Sisters Boyfriend's Honda Prelude, definatly not - Friend No.1 Astra Sport, Nope - Friend No.2 2001 Ford Escort 1.6, no chance

I would go for Asda breakdown myself. They give you european cover on your named vehicle, and even though we have multiple call outs each year, premiums still go down each year. Their service is provided by Brittania Rescue, and if you call them and say I want a recovery wagon to take this home, that's what you get, no man in a van to 'check that you really need a wagon' when your trailing arm has snapped, so your 4 wheel drive now wants to drive in 2 different directions.

Get the france cover. The only time i didnt the SSS stainless exhaust RUSTED (they dont tell you the pipe and the join over the rear axle is NOT STAINLESS) and parted over the rear axle and burnt a hole in the rear air bag lines and this was the start of the hols. So limped around for a repair and no joy. So stayed in camp site for a week and then limped to port and got the AA to pick me up in Portsmouth.

Thanks for all the info and advice received, Full European cover it is then AA are my only choice as I live in Ireland and have not seen the RAC here. I did have a bad experience with the AA which is a long story but to cut it short the AA got the sub contracted mechanic to return the part he stole/ removed from my vehicle the very next day. Turned out he did not know the configuration of the drive belt and he removed one of the pulleys and made up a cock and bull story that he could not fix it due to a pulley missing. Wrong move i was under the vehicle an hour or so before he arrived and knew that nothing was missing. After a few weeks of threats to the AA i did get a full written apology and 1 years free membership!. :wtf:

I'm with the AA and it's a simple decision for me ......... they give Serving Forces members 50% discount. They also put my cover on hold when I deploy and start it again when I come back. So, for example, instead of pay March, go away May, park up until November , pay again March. It stops in May, starts in November,runs out September. None of the others offer it.

Two isn't bad going, it could be worse and you could've realised there were none
