No offence to Skodas but it looks like he wants something a bit bigger!
Spec looks ok. mileage not very high.

He emailed me in the first place

Whats the rear chassis like have you viewed it ?

Not viewed yet and wouldn't swap without viewing

Emailed the bloke and this is his response

" Hi thanks for the quick reply, I'm happy to answer any questions you have, I bought this off my business partners sister she had it for 3 years to tow her caravan twice a year, she told me when she got it it had all the oils changed plus aux belts etc, since iv had it it's had fuel reg change, Injector harness change, new sensor fitted, i think its been changed to springs i will get my.neighbour to conform this, it doesnt have a sunroof fitted, everythijg qorls as ot should ,my neighbour has a landrover breakers and he checked it over when I got it and said it was sound the underneath has a bit of surface rust and it's in need of a wax oil, only reason for sale is iv had an operation on my leg so getting in and out is hard work, the body work does have a few small age related marks but nothing to bad all in all its a straight td5 that drives great and starts first time, hope this helps your questions "

I would advise against taking someone's word that the chassis is sound.
I had an 04 plate Discovery and one side of the rear chassis was missing.
I will upload photos if you wish.
Very good motors but you need to go over the rear of the chassis and also round the fuel tank.
Some 04 chassis's seem to be made of swiss cheese.

Oh totally agree I learnt my lesson on a Citroen saxo that could have doubled as a cheese grater by trusting someone opinion once!

I'll be visiting hammer in hand!

new update from the bloke (who I'm thinking is a trader)

" on the mot the advisories where
001 offside front track rod end ball joint has slight play
002 offside rear ( to flexi ) brake pipe slightly corroded
003 nearside anti roll bar linkage slight play
004 offside rear tyre worn
005 chassis showing corrosion
The tyre has been replaced, not sure about the other things listed I no it needs a wax oil as it hasn't had one for a while I went to see the guy who did the mot before I bought it and he said the chassis is sound also my next door neighbour checked it and said the same ( he has 8 discoverys )
Yes i was going to ask you about that how much cash would you want with the disco I don't mind adding a bit as like you said your car is higher priced, I don't have any questions I think you have covered everything in your description, thanks"

not ruling out walking away from this one as not viewed chassis and he keeps banging on about it) and for him not to know what works been done on some basic safety items like the track rod

so how much roughly are we talking parts and labour for the work to be done on those items?

He's asked how much cash I'd want my way he's value his at £4.5k and mines currently up for £4910 on that particular website still.

Thanks

OK update bloke has offered £500 plus his discovery for the skoda (would need to view first before accepting )

By looking on here and pricing up what the car needs doing to it ive worked out that track rod and link rod (advisories) come to £60 ( rimmers) plus hour and half fitting at about £90 (by me) plus tracking at £50 (kwik fit) plus full service kit from rimmers £70 new brake line is about £80 plus fitting plus a chassis steam clean and waxoil at £200

So including the £400 price gap that's around £800

Knowing that he wont accept that I said I'd consider the £500 offer and the disco (if it checks out) but only if the advisory work was completed and I listed the above work that wanted doing

His response:

"Thanks for the reply I won't be able to do anything it for a couple of weeks as I'm unable to drive, I don't want to spend any more money on it as it already stands me at more than the swap price, there are no knocks or bangs whilst driving and it doesn't pull to one side, I'm afraid I can only offer you £500 plus the discovery which I think is not a bad deal, thanks"

One to walk from you think?

The world is not short of '04 Discos at around that price.
You really need to drive/inspect it.
It's in Burnley, you're in Hinckley.

I would step away from this one.
