For a long time now on my display (where it shows my mileage) its dim on one side, now i know this will only cost a few pence (like the bulb) but theres got to be a catch some place after all its a landy, do i have to rip the whole of the dash out to get to it? and if so is it a pain in the ass to do it, and in the end is it worth it or not??

no mate theres no catch its just 3 bulbs ( change the lot ) its a piece of **** 15 mins taking your time ;) .

Rick its the bit that shows the actual millage (the numbers themselves) so how do i take it apart? are there some screws under the top of the dash then?
 
Undo the steering wheel adjustment clamp, pull the wheel towards you and drop it down to it's lowest position.Remove the 4 caps from the kick panel and remove 4 screws. Remove the two self tappers just above the steering wheel switch cowl. Lower the kick panel taking care not to stretch or damage the flexible hose to the vent in the kick panel. Remove two self tappers at the top of the instrument bezel, when it's clear, disconnect the fuel flap switch plug. After removing the bezel you will see the screws holding the instrument pack-remove these and disconnect the multiplugs-remove panel. You should then see how to gain access to the mileage indicator. TIP- if you end up buying a second hand instrument pack, make sure it has a LOWER mileage than your old one because it will revert to the highest reading and cannot be reversed.
 
:D :D In case any of you wonder why the speedo reading resorts to the higher figure, it's because there's an Eprom in the code which burns in the mileage. To prevent "Clocking"-as the mileometer (Odometer) is digital display, it needs the info from the BECM to display the figures.To be on the safe side however, if the mileage on the replacement speedo is higher, the Eprom will accept this figure. O.K.-what happens if you change the BECM-there is a buffer in the speedo which sends the information to the new BECM. Many people have tried to "Clock" them but it's almost impossible unless you spend a fortune, which makes it uneconomical.:D :D
