Ive got one hell of a dilemma


So ill start at the beginning (but ill keep it as short as I can)
My dad recently took early retirement due to medical uses
As this was unexpected he a few years ago bought a top of the range nissan navara
Now because hes not working he has no need of such a big car and hes looking at getting rid of it.
He said I could have it for a grand and take over the repayments. Of which theres 2 years left at £220 per month = £5280 + the £1000 to buy him his little runaround =£6280
Did I mention its a 2010 reg tekna worth around £9500
But it would mean getting rid of my much loved rangie
Now I know it has its own problems but the £1000 I would lay owt would more than fix them
What to do?

Keep the Rangie, the Navarra has a heap of trouble of it's own, go look at forums and the engine. It will cost you an arm and a leg when it goes wrong.

Some may call it that, I prefer Hobby:) Set yourself in the situation having to fork out £200 plus for the privilege owning a Nissan, not for me.
 
old navara's the body demounted in accidents, the engines are notorious
 
That navara would be a d40 worked on them for 5 yrs and I know and have seen so many common issues I would keep the rangie its a proper 4wheel drive not like these navara 2wd until put in 4wd and then they are useless.

D40 common problems that I know and have fixed
Egr valves
Suction control valves
High pressure pumps
Injectors
Turbo's
Injector rails
Clutches
Flywheel
4wd switches and seals and oils
Wheel bearings
Stretched timing changes

Just to list a few

Keep the rangie and sell the d40 to someone else who wants the look of a 4x4 but to be found they are useless offroad
 
I would keep the rangie. Navara I'd nothing special, not the nicest to drive either. Yes u spend a bit now, but you own it out right. If it goes wrong u fix it. If Nissan goes wrong you are making payments and u will have to find more money for repairs.
 
Navara is class 4 depending on use ie commercial then it class 7 the specific weight has never been issued to the ministry so its a very grey area
 
my cousin has blown up 2 of them trying to use them on the moors to see to his birds they are pants mate stick with the range :D
 
Another vote for the rangie, you can bet that as soon as the warranty expires (if it hasn't already) something major will bang and end up costing you and second mortgage, both arms and your first born.

I'd keep the rangie:

1) You own it
2) It's far better than a Navara
3) It's not a V8 so not going to cost you the £220 a month in repairs;)
 
Put the £220 a month you would save not having a Navara into a Rangie maintenance account, after a couple of years you would have saved enough to buy a decent car.
