Help!! the abs, handbrake and traction lights are on. Determined that I might need a new pump, replaced the abs pump and accumilator, the switch and the relay - and yet the lights are still on - any ideas coz I don't think there's anything left to replace??????
 
Battery Weak...this can have odd results too...the ABS and TC system are the first to suffer....

As The Wammer says - read the codes and clear any stored.

Thanks guys, it's been doing my nut after spending a few too many pennies - I'll get the codes read tomorrow and cleared - hopefully that will be the end of that.
One other thing though, and please, no mention of snakes in the footwell as I don't do mechanics, just pay the bills. When I brake, I get a hissing sound from the footwell as if there's a leak. If I'm gradually braking coming to a junction, the hiss lasts as long as my foot is on the brake - any idea?? and is it dangerous??? and no snake jokes - lol

The brake pedal has two switches....and electronic one for the Brake Lights and Cruise Control Electronics shutoff...and a second that is a pressure vent switch, this is used to vent vacuum pressure from the Cruise Control system....

The Cruise Control System uses a vacuum pump to pull a rubber diaphram bellows connected to the throttle linkage, when you set a speed, the pump pulls a vacuum and sucks the bellows to pull the throtle to the set speed.

When you brake, you have to one shut the brains off, and two vent this holding vacuum pressue, hence the tiny hiss....

If it is quite a loud noise or a more agressive sounding hiss, it might be something else.

The P38 uses powered brakes and not a vacuum drum of old.....

When you press the pedal, this pulls on a linkage inside what would be called the Master cylinder this has the effect of opening valve ports to direct hydraulic pressure to the calipers to apply the brakes, when you release the brakes, you are colsing these valves and opening the vent side to vent the hydraulic pressure back to the brake fluid tank....this hiss or whoosh is the brake fluid being reurned through the 'master cylinder'

Is it more of a hiss or whoosh?? both should be quite faintish...a loud noise would require further investigation....
 
definately a hiss, I expect I have become paranoid about it. On the subject of the abs. when my mechanic friend replaced the pump, the 3 lights went out, as soon as it was reversed out of the premises, they came on again. It's baffling the hell out of him as to why they wont switch off? The accumulator was brand new, the pump was from fleabay from a dealer (3 month warranty), the relay was new? what the hell could it be? Everything else on the car works just fine ( grabbing a large bit of 4 x 2)!!
 
also, despite it being a pump in good working order, and a new accumulator, it continues to run rather than switch off, why coud this happen? Would the fault codes be doing this?
 
sorry about this, one other thing is if the car is left over night, the lights go out when I start up in the morning. If I then use the car at lunch, they stay on????????

Well it they correctly bleed and the pump keeps on running ,then I would think it is not getting up to pressure,which could be a leak,the pump itself,the pressure switch or accumulator.
If the Mech has Land rover capable diagnostic equipment,then have the codes read.It should give a pointer in the right direction.:confused:
 
I reckon you wasted a lot of cash replacing all that stuff before running the diagnostics. I've only personally seen one with all the lights on and it was the ABS/Traction control ECU that had failed.
