on my 300 TDi (feb.1995) the coolant temperature sensor located on top of the cylinder head is leaking
in the lists I found two possible references: PRC 9917 and PRC 9942, but I found no drawing or dimension to know which is the good one
would someone confirm what to order ?
thanks

I imagine one would be for the EDC system automatic vehicle.I dont have the bag that my last one came in here, sorry.

the only one I can put my hand on is a britpart (the shame!the shame!) with a label on the bag "corresponding to (it writes letters now?) ETC8496" and in small letters in the corner "GI 89533" the old sensor that came out has stamped into the hex facings "4-070" with either an "o" or a "c" after it very small and on the opposite face "E450".

This is for a 98 300tdi auto with EDC.Sorry I cant confirm your part #s,maybe you could cross-ref at britparts site,or elsewhere......???

best I can do mate

shocksi

PS I know how frustrating it is to get NO answers at all....Id rather have something, even if not exactly what I asked, that way I know people are at least thinking about it.Maybe you feel the same ,I dont know

PRC9917 is what you require, unless you have a Gulf States spec disco then PRC9942.

Both are located and screwed into the thermostat housing not "top of the cylinder head".

ETC8496 is a temp sensor for a V8.

The 300tdi EDC variant has coolant sensor in "the top of the cylinder head", about halfway back

I think I have found it: after some polishing I first noticed on a hex face a five digit code 8050 and another figure ...

then on the opposite face the Bosch logo ... so my five digits code is only the word BOSCH, lol

I kept polishing the body and the magnifier eventually showed 0 280 130 026 which is listed on a car supplies site as a coolant sensor for hundreds of cars from Alfa Romeos to VW (even Ferraris and Rolls Royce use that one) so it won't be too hard to find hopefully, I'll check with the Fiat dealer next door !

@discool: I have nothing on top of the thermostat box (except the big bung, now in shiny brass), the sensor I extracted was slightly off the middle of the first row of head bolts (closest to the inlet and exhaust pipes)

thanks for your help (as you mentioned, the moral aid is sometimes as important as an exact answer!)

from the picture it's exactly the one ... I'll take note of the actual part number, although I have been given a Jaguar UKC 2525 that I'll install tomorrow
