have you earthed the gauge? It may need an earth strap from the body of the guage, try it. Thats what I needed on my 300tdi fuel guage when it was playing up.

May have a short some where, the lower the resistance the higher the gauge reads. Try disconecting the temp sender if it still reads high then theres a short somwhere

If its a Disco engine you may need to change the sender, Steve Parker sells the correct senders so that the gauge reads more accurate.
