So another issue with my td6 is the temp gauge doesn't get very hot, tends to stay just above the blue most of the time,
I've read it's likely to be a thermostat stuck open, but how do I check which one needs to be replaced?

Td6 has one on the egr cooler as well, been busy this week taking all that lot off mine runs a bit hotter now round town but starts to cool down a bit when speed goes up to 60ish, maybe should have gone for oem stat and not an e--y one. and thats with fan and cowl off ran the p38 like that for years.

The one on the EGR cooler is unlikely to be effecting the dash gauge.
