Would of thought do it quickly could be the only advice re disconnectin any egr.
egr's are controversial... do a search on here and you will find some info, do a google and you will find all sorts of info... my advice is if it isn't broken, leave it alone, it is extending the life of your vehicle, if it is broken, try and fix it, if you can't fix it then consider blanking it..

If you use your td6 for towing it is definately worthwhile. They are prone to gunking up if the vehicle tows regularly. I have been out to no end of these that have gone into limp mode. Turn off engine and restart and you can go for another half hour then it does the same again. Take of the trailer and it runs fine.
