OK lads,

The Td4 freelander 1 starts and then cuts out sometimes. It also sometimes holds back while driving and EML comes on but goes straight off again when it regains power again.

I thought Hooray I will have a fault code. Read it out and nothing not a single code?

What are the opinions?

Fuel related?

Ordered a new fuel filter already as I am not sure I changed it since I have it (over a year now). I did all the filters in the engine bay for sure but can't remember if the fuel filter was done.
 
Most likely LP pump(s). Since the HP pump is cooled and lubed with diesel, the ECU will cut the engine if the supply pressure drops to save it.

Do you have a pre or post 02 model?
 
Could just be muck on the lp pump connectors. As your replacing the filter, undo the connections, use some carb cleaner or similar and give it a squirt. Cheaper than a new pump. Mike

It's behaving the same way ours did recently - 02 Td4 with 185,000 miles. The LP pump in the wheelarch (yours and mine don't have the in-tank one) was making more noise than usual. Changed it and the filter and no more problems. Start by changing the filter - get a genuine one as Britpart ones aren't very good. At least you'll have freed up the horrible little 10mm bolts in case you need to go in and swap the pump.

Alternatively, you could confirm the fault with a pressure test...

I am trying to locate the LP pump but RAVE doesn't give a good location. I was looking in the engine bay instead of a wheel arch.

Which wheel arch is it in?
 
OK ordered the parts, went for the cheap crap one for now as they quoted me 260 euro for one here in Ireland!!

See if that cures it and if it does I will order a proper one in the UK
 
Hi guys i need help my land rover freelander 1 HSE td4 2005 model face lift will idie for long and wont cut out but as soon as you go for a drive it cuts out i have replaced fuel rail sensor and new fuel pump rear wheel arch one and new fuel filter and new coolant temperature sensor got other injectors 2 hand but it come off a well driven land rover td4 so i think it will be that and one more thing car will not start anymore unless you bumb start it or spray quick start and its been like that before i changed the injectors and all other parts please help me thanks in advance all the way from South Africa
