Had a bit of spare time this avo so starred striping down the faulty injector I replaced the other day.
I just couldn't resist haha

I'll probably soak all parts in paraffin before cleaning, and if i get hold of an ultrasonic bath it'll save the mrs from freaking out about parts on top of the washing machine.
Will update with pics of the full strip down once I get more time

Great nice photo's when I did mine I cleaned them out with carb cleaner, I only cleaned the tips and tops this way and all were giving good reading after.

and what do you need to replace to re install the injectors? what washers orings? and also any particular tool?

When ever a injector is removed and replaced always use a new copper washer link below.

Other wise no special tools need for the job

cheers for that, I am going to do some injectors as well.
Did any of you had a problem of not getting the injectors out of the engine?

A friend of mine couldn't get them out. Any tips or tricks before I start?

Warm engine.
If you loosen the clamp a little and crank the engine I believe you can get the engine compression to blow them out (but I'm just repeating what I've read!).

As above always better to have the engine hot to remove the injector, as moving them from cold will be a nightmare, and you may need a slide hammer then, if hot they can be prised out carefully, I have some photo's which I will load up later, no special tools need to take the injector apart but make sure you work on or in a clean area.

I think you need to remove the electrical connections from all the injectors, or a relay in the injection system before cranking - you don't want the engine to fire.

I just swapped out this injector the other day, check my other thread "lumpy running, dead injector" for some great tips from other members

You could also remove the Cam sensor plug, but if you have the engine hot you should be able to prise out the injectors.
Remove Air duct, & intercooler section along with the manifold to expose the injectors etc, remove leak back hoses, undo fuel unions, loosen the small 8mm nuts holding the injectors clamps down, use a flat bar on the cam cover otherwise you could damage the cover, use a pry bar and prise up each injector in turn or just the one you need to remove.

Yes, it works as long as the engine is hot.

Gary, how did you get the electrical connector off?
Can it be done with the injector in the car?
Mine are stuck in the head. I have a puller kit but need to get the electrical connection off to use it.

Stripped some used injectors (td4) and found that some have a collar, spring and end piece, like above photo and some have a tiny 1.5mm dot in the middle of the spring that sits on the end of the rod from the top portion. Anyone come across this type - do they work the same? What does the power do when applied, is it a magnetic lift on the needle in the nozzle?? Thanks - will clean and put back as they were - eyesight permitting, but just wondered why the different types?? Thanks

The connector is connected to a stack of Piezoelectric elements. These expand when power is applied to them, which lifts the needle off its seat. Piezoelectric elements react faster than an electromagnets and with more driving force.
