Hi I was talking to Alistort who do intercoolers for TD4 Hippo 1's .... and they do a full radiator size unit - about 3 times the size of std!!! ..... has anybody tried this..... according to supplier torque and power band greatly improved... Can't see why it should not work like Allard conversion for Defender di's Factory intercooler looks puny....

i have often though of this, think the price puts me off a little, but like all landie owners gotta keep spare for repair!!! I suppose the other issue is wether the components/draintrain will cope with the extra torque.What sorts of gains we talking?

According to Alisport ..... power should come in lower ...... bhp aroud 12 - 15 - torque
around 20-25flbs - power should also hold up at higher revs as intercoolers flow is better.
I suppose its not massive power but it right in the most usefull drivable range. I am very tempted...

if its jusy a case of bigger intercooler, might be worth trying to squeeze in a disco one, a lot cheaper! but Im tempted too!! or a FBH heater kit or, custom winch bumper fabbed up..
oooo to many temptations. xmas soon too.

I hardly think that is a possibility, the available space is a lot different and the size/shape of the intercooler completely different. That sort of thing might well work on a Defender or Disco1 but things are a lot tighter on a Freelander (don't I know it!).
Replaced the intercooler on my Defender and it made a moderate power increase (along with fueling tweeks) so I see no reason why the Allisport replacement for the TD4 shouldn't do as promised (I have alot of time for Allisport and you get their items VAT free when bought aat one of the shows). Don't know if manual adjustments are required to get the benefit or whether the sensors will pick up on it, best to speak to Allisport direct to find out.

Hi Litch .... I agree space looks really tight ...... that's why I decided to talk to Allisport...I use a synergy 2 which tends to overfuel a bit on high performance mode - so my plan was to fit the bigger intercooler and make more use of that fuel!!!!! (synergy2 does not smoke normally only if you floor it ..... so there must be plenty of fuel present)
