Hello gents;
I did a search about the tstat diagnosis and i have read a description of it on rave,it mentions there that it allows a controlled flow of coolant to circulate,now i have replaced the t/stat twice in 6 months and i am not happy from the results so far,i tried to find the black one said OEM,but to no availability,so i got the white one again.
now even when the fan is howling and i believe rangy is on opearating temperature when i touch the bottom hose going to radiator 2 inches hose it is warm to touch and the hose above the tstat is burning hot,according to your knowledge gents and expertise is that a normal sign or they must be at the same feeling on touch?burning hot both of them?if you can check the ones on your p38s or provide any definitive answer about this question i will really apreciate the help coz it is getting me dizzy this issue.
water pump and hoses and everything else seem to be operating properly,but honestly i am not trusting my temp gauge,even if it shows one millimeter above center there isn't presure build up in the top rad hose.is it a faulty tstat again?

It does take a long time to get to open
Is the rad clear as a blocked rad will cause the same problem too
How are you bleeding the system as they are buggers for air locking

yep the rad is clear i got it rodded 5 months ago and flushed the system all the way,even on checking the coolant upon the replacement of the tstat was clear,as for bleeding it was done properly from the top bleeding pipe,no air locks i am sure of that.
So is it normal about the hoses temperature there should be a difference or the same temperature?

Check the stat in a pan of boiling water and see if it opens properly.

i did that to the one before replacing it,but i poured boiling water in it it did open a little bit i kept on doing it with the same result,i have a feeling that even this new tstat is the same,should i look for the black one is there really a difference between the black and the white tstat?and wht about the hoses?cheers data/

there should be a temp difference between inlet and outlet when the stat is open. That's kind of what the rad is there for.....

You need to keep the water boiling on the stove (make sure the missus is out LOL) and see if the stat opens fully. There have been a few threads on faulty stats not opeining fully from new. No idea about different colours.

cheers data will do that,but unfortunatly the missues passed away 2 months ago at the age of 28 so it won't be a problem she is out.

yoiu can only tell if rad is allright by feeling it all across core ,where all parts should be hot

I've had simular issues with thermostats not operating correctly. I fitted 2 non genuine at approx £28 each, which at that price I assumed were genuine but was never happy with the flow. Got a genuine one at £68

about 6 months ago and have had no issues since. So from now on I'll only get genuine ones.
