Hi does anyone in the Solihull or Birmingham area have a swr meter they could use to help me setup my CB please.
I do get signal etc but it is not the best just want to ensure it is working at its optimum.
I got one, but dont really know how to use it properly...
I set me CB up and all it worked OK, so never needed to mess about as I only use it in convoy or laning anyway. I'm in Cotteridge, B'ham
It doesn't matter if you are using it in convoy, or across town or even trying to catch skip and talk abroad, IF your antenna is not matched correctly to your transmitter you WILL blow the output transistors.
On the same thread I have installed my new CB and done the checks with the SWR Meter and with my whip aerial I get a reading of around 0.3 I am suspicious that this is just too good to be true or could I be that lucky first time round... On my stubby rubber aerial the reading is around 1 so I know the meter is working whats the average SWR reading for a good setup with a 5 foot Springer aerial?
Ha Ha, get yourself an amateur license then, you'll find 2mts far better than 27megs.
On the SWR subject, the lower the better although it would work well enough as high as 2.0, over about 2.5 will start to damage the rig. Amateur rigs are usualy better made and shut down on power when the SWR is too high.
True, but there may be more of us and we can certainly be a help to the childrens band users. Promote our "other" hobby, it could certainly do with it.
I've posted it as a suggestion, lets see if anyone responds...
