Morning all,

Have now got a Disco 300tdi front axle in the garage to refurb at my leisure then I can swap it over.

Trying to take the pitted teflon coated swivel ball off. Have managed to undo all but 1 of the 12point 14mm bolts. The remaining 1 is refusing to move but the spanner now goes round on the head.
Any ideas for getting it out please?

Was going to replace the lot with a swivel ball kit from paddocks
Is this ok? or would you buy the parts individually with OME seals etc? or any other recomendations?

Lastly after taking the stub axle off there is a bronze bush on the inside face with roller bearings and a seal. The bronze bush looks ok but has black marks on its mating face will this be ok? Haynes says its a job for LR dealer?
Do I need to change the roller bearings and seal if they look ok?

hit head with large punch and hammer ,turn spanner round so putting the least worn side on bolt head first,heat if all else fails
 
i love bolt extractors have a snapon set myself ,but they dont work very well on bihex headed bolts, needle roller bearing bronze bush replace if they look worn or damaged,they usually give very little trouble, i would buy 606666g swivel bearings x2 ,ftc3401 swivel seal x 1 ,chrome ball seal ftc3276 x 1 and stc3435 grease x1 per side,lower swivel pin never needs removing only top ,top pin shouldnt need replacing like earlier bush type ,also get new bolts ftc3456 x 7 per for ball to axle ,silicone can be used instead of gaskets
 
Being an Old Gimmer, I still like to do things as they were originally done.

Fings just ain't wot they used to be!!
 
Ok thanks for the replies. Managed to drill a hole through the head of the bolt then put a small drill in the hole and undo it like a tommy bar.

Just for future reference i suggest you invest in spanners that grip on the flats as they are much less likely to round the heads off:D
 
I stripped one the other day and used 14 ring spanner and a rubber mallet, worked a treat but by fook they were all tight almost all the way out, dam thread lock:mad:
