Eventually I have my winch back in full working order, new ujs and new carrier bearings. All running nice and smooth. What I would like to know is that the winch free spools easily and can be driven in forward and reverse but I dont know if it is safe or advisable to use it in the reverse mode to let the vehicle go down a steep gradient backwards??? Is it possible to select the diff lock in low range and use the winch in conjunction with the drive wheels at the same time?
Any information much appreciated.:p

Thanks

Graham.

gearbox should see you down a steep hill.WOuldnt wanna reverse down it.What you thinking of driving down?White cliffs of dover?Holyhead?

Well controlled lowering of stuff is useful, although maybe not for a landy going backwards!

I suppose I cold make a gantry and use it when I have t service foul water and sewage pumps, might be more useful than I thought.
