Hello,
I am hoping somebody can help me please with my leaking Discovery 2.I have read lots about the issue on this forum and cannot find an answer to two questions.
After fixing my new rubber seal and repairing my front sunroof ,I have water on L.H. headlining side of my Discovery 2.
I have sealed the roof rails and screen seal looks okay.

I want to adjust my front sunroof to fit over my new rubber seal better,its siting a bit high in the frame at the back and I cannot work out how to do it,if its possible at all?

When I put it back in I used the witness marks on the glass to re fix it.

After all this and repairing my drain tube plastic nozzles,blasting the tubes with air and poking wires up the tube,I still have a leak on the passenger side,so am thinking this may be the problem.I sealed everything with tiger seal which I saw mention ed on the forum.
I saw mention don the forum that with a new seal it should not leak at all,so am at a loss.

It does not seem to leak as much when parked pointing up hill,so I may have a problem with a drain tube from reading other posts ,i thought as well?,perhaps someone could advise me please,I assume the drain tube just dangles in the A pillar?.I found the hole sat in the bottom in the A pillar and cleaned this up,but it was not a tube end.

Is the rubber seal is making contact with the class as the only adjustment is the glass something like 10mm from the edge of the plastic surround the info is in the sunroof section of RAVE. That's unless u disturbed the manufacturers settings by removing the motor or operating the system with out any glass in place.
The drains are only there to take water away if the the glass is tilted with water on it not for an incorrectly fitted glass seal.

You say the screen seal looks ok, are you sure it is.
I had wet headlining just in front of Bpost, that was leaking screen
 
Thank you both,much appreciated.On the screen in this area I can see evidence of sealer being put in and it looks good.I will look again as its raining here today and we have two more days of it.
If I turn the vechile round and point it up hill as my drive slopes,it seems to not leak,

My sunroof is a manual one,the glass will not sit very flat at the far end away from the winder handle,so i lined it up with the marks on the glass and refitted it. I think it needs to be flatter.
I understand what you mean as I read the forum guide and so much about this before setting out to do it.I will look at the RAVE and see if i can adjust it a bit.Untill I did the intial repair I had water both front corners and dripping down all along the front end.I took it slowly and had to put a tarpaulin over the hole in the roof for a day while my araldite dried. I was please until a bout a week ago.
I have been out tonight with a strong torch and cannot see anything coming through,but noticed the rubber drain hose is hard in one place.I have a round black tape covering a hole in the A post and just pulled this off to see if water was running down this and noticed this was hard?,which i do not think is right,so wonder if something has got in the tube.
I did blast them out with my compressor at several bar pressure and they seemed okay.
But i understand that if the seals fitted right and the glass is flat touching it the tubes should not be needed.I never open the roof.
I wonder if the winder is bust and stopping the glass going flat..

yes both of them.I had them in my shed for a day while i fixed the plastic boxes and the nozzles for the tubes with araldite.T hen used tiger seal on the plastic frame to seal to the body and used it on the bottom bit of the sunroof.I think its called the tray.
Back ones been fine and the right side front is good,just the left side.
 
have you got the handle back on the right spline before screwing it up tight, i think there is a bit of le-way in the screws that hold the glass in place, i would'nt think the leak is in the seal! i know they are a pain in the butt to do and to line everything back up, i did mine years ago when my last car had roof's, didn't take long just a fiddle

Hello,
I have been out on the vechile today in the rain.I dropped the front part of the lining again to try and see where it was leaking from and could not find the source completely.
I tried to get the roof glass to lay flat and it would not go down any more on the passenger side which is the side its leaking from.I am wondering if the mechanism is broken.The drain seems to be okay and from what i can see,so much water is in the channel in the roof its getting swamped and over flowing to the head lining.If i put my hand round the inside of the sunroof its dry apart from tiny bit of condensation.
I did the initial repair about 9 months ago,used a seal from a main dealer,so assume it was good.When the weather is better I will try and adjust he glass a bit to try and get it flat.I have taken some pictures and hope this shows the problem.
I do very much appreciate all your help.
 
Wow, you got quite a gap there.

Has it ever been flat? does the front edge sit under flush? is it equal side to side?

The sunroof is stopping short of the final closure point where the only movement is the glass dropping down and sealing.
You may have a mechanism misalignment with the two front glass carriers (black hockey sticks) are not opposite each other, or one is not moving fully, something that can happen if the drive mechanism is moved while the glass is out, or maybe one of the nylon sliders/rollers on the track has broken.
You will have to remove the glass and see why the its no pulling down onto the seal.

I had the pleasure of rebuilding two working sunroof from the parts of three others a few years age for a mate, so I had to completely dismantle the tracks, drive cables fit replacement sliders,rollers and blinds and carry out adjustments to get them operating correctly.
I kept a few of the small nylon bits and screws incase I had an issue, but I won't as I never use the things, something didn't wont as I have air con.
 
The front edge is flat and the other side is flat and looks perfect.
I am sure it was not like this before.I never open it

I will wait until the rain eases and do as you say,take the glass out and see whats happening.I do not think i could rebuild it and might try and get one from a scrap yard if need be.I appreciate your insight and comments.I did try today in the rain to slide it it to fit better,but it would not move at all?

I will update when i do it,just so wet here and no end in sight!
 
That's how my mate ended up with three other sunroof they all had a problem.
Yes the wrong time of the year to play with them, sunroof are interesting when the sun is shining and is 80c +.

Thanks fOr that.I have read in the manual again and it says I should have a 6.5mm gap between the glass and the front of the sunroof frame.I do not!.
So I am hoping that may help and I will check the othe rethinks you mention.

i would say like Discool has said, i don't think it is going all the way down, somehow it has not gone full travel to it's final place, take glass out and spin it through the full cycle to see what it does by sticking yer head out! is one side more forward than the other on the track?
 
While reading the manual u may have seen this, so something to check before any dismantling.

CAUTION: Ensure the regulator is aligned

with fixing holes and the sunroof is in the

normally closed position. DO NOT rotate

the regulator spindle in the rack - this may result

in incorrect operation of the sunroof.
 
Thank you,I assume the regulator is the handle? I was thinking if i remove the handle as its on like a cable and push down on the corner of the glass and get it flush and then fit the handle(regulator) if it lines up.I never open the roof so I just want the thing to stop leaking.
I still cannot work out why it was fine for many months and then this,I began to wonder i its been levered up by somebody as in the corner where its high some odd marks are on the roof.
It surprises me that some clever person has not made an aftermarket replacement for the sunroof as it seems a real pain of a device.

I have been doing some more on the roof leak and it seems that one of my runners on the roof is not operating like the other side.You were right.The one on the side where the roof does not sit down is not moving when it gets to the end.I was doing this by torch just now,so could see that well but i could see it was not going forward enough like the other side .Not sure what to do.
Apart from try and get a scrapyard unit.
I assumed I would need to get new runners,so just called a main dealer who said you can get them at nearly £400.00 a pair which really shocked me.
This was just the rtunners.
I cannot afford that really.
So am a bit stuck.

I also discovered that the drain on the passenger side is blocked ,water was collecting at the top and not going away.So I plan to pull out the black drain tube and buy a new one or clean it out again if I can.I did blast it with air when i did the original new seal on the roof,so must have got blocked some how.
It will not clear now at all with air or poking wire down it.

Please can anyone tell me if its okay to just pull it out?...I hope it just dangles in the A post as it does not come out the bottom.I found the hole on the inside of the chassis where i think it should drain from.
