Greetings!
My pride and joy has been making squealing noises when turning and changing gear. I am certain it is the swivel joint making the noise, and oil has been leaking from that swivel joint all-over the driveway (not that it makes much difference to the drive anyway lol).

Anyhow to get to the swivel housing, i need to remove the stub-axle. Problem is the stub axle is stuck on the housing. I have removed the locking plate and the bolts, but the damn thing wont shift. I tried lightly chiselling at the seal, to no avail. Does anyone have any words of wisdom? Its a 1991 Defender 110.

ps i have read on this site: Teflon's Torque - Workshop - Hubs Inspection, Maintenance & Overhaul - A Step By Step Guide that it is only the gasket holding the stub axle on.

Cheers :D

Yup, circlips are off. I think that heat will be my next course of action, hopefully it has not rusted together. Would i be able to turn the stub while removing, would that help? Or is it strictly kept straight, while removing?

Nah you should be able to turn it an generally bash it around all ovver the shop.

haha... hammer it off :D

back to your original point. are you sure its the swivels squeaking? checked/greased your UJ's on your props? most landy swivels leak anyway. try filling with one shot grease 1st before overhaul.

anyway, up to you.

Well bugger me sideways, no wonder the price of coppers gone up that blokes got most of the world supply blathered on his hubs.
