I had this issue with my 2.5 P38 since I owned it however it has become more frequent. Even searches on BMW forums have not given me any answers.
The throttle seems to cut off when cruising along, only seems to happen below 3000 rpm. It become completely unresponsive. If I put the clutch in then try I still get no response. When I lift the clutch pedal up it starts working again.
This happens more often (now virtually every time) when setting off and changing into 2nd gear.
To explain exactly what happens: I set off in 1st, dip the clutch, select 2nd, lift the clutch up and the car slumps like my foot isn't on the accelerator. I have to then dip the clutch and bring it back up for the accelerator to become responsive again.
As you can imagine this is quite a pain in the arse setting of from the lights and frankly dangerous trying to get out of a junction. I can only avoid this by revving high into the range before changing gear.
This happened once on the motorway in the fast lane, I had to dump the clutch multipe times before the throttle became responsive and by that time i was down to 50mph.
