The last couple of days my td5 discos ign has taken a couple of attempts the turn the key.The steering lock was off when this happened.
Anybody any experience of this happening before? Any advice or help is always appreciated.

Hi,
It is a common occurrence on the ignition barrel.
Unfortunately , the chances are it is only going to get worse.

There is a great write up on how to remove the ignition barrel and check the brass gates the the key works on. May be on here or search theinterweb.

Basically it is either, remove some gates, change the barrel, or you can clean the barrel up and hope it does not happen again.

Not a difficult job to do.

If you go down the route of replacing the barrel lock assembly complete, then you're going to end up with two sets of keys, one set with the fob on it which will now only open the door and another set which will fit the new barrel lock, but without the fob it'll turn but not start the vehicle.
You're going to have to changeover the fob onto the new keyblade, it can be done but it's just a bit of a fiddle.
Remember you're going to have to keep the ones that open the door so that you can apply the EKA should the need ever arise.
You can always purchase a replacement barrel lock AND a matching door lock as a set.

When ever I've found my ignition switch difficult to turn, I've found a quick puff of dry graphite lube in the barrel or just on the key works for the next couple of years, sticky lock barrels must be a Land Rover thing.

So give it a try perhaps.

Thanks for all the replies,as iv not got much time il give it a spray of dry chain lube what I use for my bike.Hopefully that will last a bit longer before I have to strip it down.

Crush up some pencil lead and shove that in there, does the same job, just don't get any wood in there ...
