Hi everyone,

From my previous thread, Gav has advised that I may have to look at and change my stem seals, when I was looking on how to change them, its basically not a great deal more to then go on and do the Head gasket too.

What do you reckon? to be safe than sorry and to do the head gasket aswell while I am down there?

Many thanks

Matt

You've got nothing to loose! If you pop the heads off you can do the gaskets and stem seals but you can also take the valves out and clean them up and then lap them in and make sure the whole top end is 100%.

Thanks Classic Kev, I was thinking the same, especially after the advice given about lapping the valves.

I have made a start and there are a couple of things I would like to check.

I am going to get the heads skimmed as they are only £25 each and by reading the advice here it is best to get this done.

Just as a check I have been reading the rave cd and do you have to take off the air con condenser and power steering pump off?

The rave cd i noticed for head gasket is for a engine 99 onwards and admittedly it doesn't say anything about it but I am at the point where I am stripping down to get to the valley gasket, and I am not sure if I need to take these off?

Many thanks
