I'm in the process of working my way through the steering system on my 1988 Ninety. Like yours it is very vague and constant little corrections are necessary to keep the thing in a straight line. The key here is to remove all the play from each component, as a small amount of play in each track rod end, the drop arm joints, and so on, soon adds up to a lot of play across the whole system.
I don't expect any miracle cures, but I'll be disappointed if my Landy isn't hugely improved once I've been through everything!

Good luck in getting the drop arm off. they can be a basted to get off I had to cut mine off in the end. you will probably need a heavy duty puller and the patience of a saint

yep they are when we done the 200 to 300 conversion on me 90 we had to swap all steering parts over and needed the drop arm swapped disco one popped off,the 90 needed an hr of heating up and using a puller which nearly bent and a lot of grunting and hitting with a lump hammer we got there in the end.
my advice soak the fooker for ages in wd40 to help things along.it was a bastid
but after this and hd steering arms and new ball joints and steering damper the steering was the best it had ever been.
I mangled my 10 ton hydraulic puller trying to release a drop arm once. So now if i am changing the box i get a new arm or if it is just the drop arm i go for grinding the side of it almost down to the splines and then a gentle tap with two hammers at the same time on oposite side usually losens it
