DUKE OF OFFLEY

Hi all, my first post this..
Fascinating reading all this, especially as 5 years ago running 'Classics' I said I wouldn't have a P38. But Hey! All you guys have ya heads bolted on!
So, I dare say, that if my steering wanders, very slightly, having to compensate with the wheel, it could be a number of things..
Do I replace the steering box, which has been tightened as far up as we dare, new matching tyres all round, damper LOOKS ok???
Any ideas?
Keep up this GREAT work everyone.

If it wanders slightly, I'd ask you what your tyre size is and are they at the right pressures?

Mine wandered slightly and I found the tyres were only at ¾ pressure. Put them back up to 28psi front and 38psi rear, no problems. Thats on 255/65/r16's. the pressure should be the same for 255/55r18's

Thanks Hammy,
I've put a new set of tyres all round on it, pressures are OK.. I can 'feel' it on the steering wheel somehow, it's a bit of play that you have to counteract, moreso on motorway driving it wanders.
You get used to it somehow, but it ain't right so I've purchased a re con unit box, might try that this weekend time permitting.
Thanks,
Duke

Could try checking/adjusting the backlash in the steering box and shaft. Have a look on RAVE for details of how to do it.
Is the steering damper o.k.?

Thanks Irish,
well I changed the steering box in the end, bigger job than expected, but as on another post here, I have no electrics to the steering wheel??
