My '98 F150 with 47,000 miles has been making a straining noise on
turns. I've had 2 different shops look at it. Both say it's a
hydraulic noise but neither said there's any problem. Basicially, I
get the noise when the system is under some pressure such as a tight
turn.

Both shops said the pump and line pressure were fine.

Truck starting making this noise a few months ago. Everything else
checks out fine.

Any one else have this problem?

Thanks
Mark

If it only does it on tight turns, as you say, then you are most likely
trying to turn it farther than it can go and overloading the ps pump. Just
ease off a hair on the steering wheel. You'll still turn just as sharp, with
a lot less stress and strain on your ps pump and belt.

Ford P/S pump are notorious for make a strange noise, especially when
turning. It starts wheel the wheel is at full lock. Eventually it will
be noisy whenever you're turnin just a little bit. After that, it will
be noisy all the time. You can usually hear a Ford pump from across the
parking lot. Fortunatly, it's just annoying. They can be noisy like
that for years. IF it were my truck - and it's making the noise I think
it is - then I would just turn the stereo up a little bit.
