Hi guys I have just bought a series 2a petrol off my friend, I have seen it running in the past as we used it for collecting logs in the woods, back then it was running as good as new. It has now been stored for a year the radiator was drained before this. We have pulled the landy out today putting new water, anti freeze, petrol and new HT leads and a brand new battery. We have taken each spark plug out giving them a clean up and testing there gap. Then as we have tried to start it the engine is turning and petrol is flowing throungh, accasoinaly we get the odd spark but it will not fire up completely and run. I have checked all gaskets, pipes ect to see if it is sucking in air but it is all in order. Would anyone be able to help, or maybe come across this prblem before and know how to solve it.

odd spark? have you tested each plug to check theres a spark?

Hi thanks for your comment but yes I have checked and all four plugs are sparking, like I said everthing is in order it has completly baffled me

have you cleaned the pins inside the distributor cap and cleaned the rotor arm also it has to be clean and dry in there no condensation

If you've replaced the plug leads are you sure they're in the right order? Dizzy goes anticlockwise, cylinder 1 at front, plug 1 on dizzy is the one pointing to the front corner of the block, firing order 1-3-4-2. Dead easy to get wrong.

Hi cheers guys I will have alook under the distributer cap, but it shouldnt be damp or anything due to it been in dry storage, and yes im possitive the leads are right as the firing order is stamped on the exhaust manifold.

The only other things I think it could be is it being choked and the carb is faulty but the choke is working and i have tried some easy start and this had made no difference either..

That's what I thought until I realised I'd got the direction of rotation wrong!
