Hi Guys, I need to lift my Disco 1, to clear the new tyres I have fitted, are spring spacers a really bad idea, should I just do it right with a lift kit?
Advice from those who know is appreciated.

P.S, Dont really fancy a body lift.

What size tyres have you had fitted? Have you considered a camel cut?

What do you mean by do it right? A cheap crappy spring lift what limits wheel travel would hardly be an upgrade.

Spacer lifts are well used and proven. Those that slate normally are the ones who haven't used them.

But overall, is depends what you are trying to achieve. BTW how big are the tyres you are trying to run? And are you prepared to cut/trim the wheel arches?

I ran 33.11.50R15's (290/90R15) on a non lifted Disco with body work issues.

I don't personally see an issue with a spacer lift, as it'll also mean it'll ride the same as before and the only affect only handling will be the higher C of G.

Check out Llama4x4, they do 1 and 2" spacers.

so surely it will handle differently if you change the centre of gravity ?

surely it will suffer more body roll when cornering on a roundabout for example with a higher centre of gravity ?

yes.. definately...

but I think if someone needs the lift, its because they are going to use it off roading and so they compromise on the road handling..

My disco was like driving a boat...but I only used it for playing in the mud, so road manners wasnt a problem for me, it wasnt a race car, was an off roader.

Same with the 90..that's why its getting a lift this weekend

Of course it will, but other lifts suffer this too. Lifting it in any other way will have this affect though. My point was, in this regard spacers are not any worse than longer springs.

The only problem with fitting spacers is if your standard springs are shagged and have sagged an inch or so, because then if you fit spacers it only takes it back to standard height so in theory you'd be better just replacing the standard height springs. I got a full set of bearmach +2" springs(standard load not heavy duty) and procomp shocks for £220 delivered and it actually went up by nearly 3" due to the old ones beign knackered.
