hi there sorry to appear thick,but is there a tool or a special way to take the caps off the spark plugs on a freelander 1 1800,K series engine as mine seem to be really hard to take off,thanks for your help,Carl

Don't think so, just grip tightly and feel for the end of the spark plug through the rubber and pull from there.

AAND if you remove more that 1 at a time, mark them..

I find giving the rubber cover a twist before pulling on it helps it come off.

they do get hard to remove especially if they have not been off for a while try turning them a bit then get a large screw driver under the top and prize slowly

I grip them with pliers and just pull

Probably best replace the plug leads. I've had problems in the past (on a Fiesta) where the leads failed after replacing plugs. They were hard to remove like you say and must have cracked, they were fine for a while but after a few weeks the car started to chug on load. I was stupid enough to trust a mechanic who replace the coil pack twice before I looked at it myself and found the real cause of the problem.
I replace the plugs and leads on my 04 1.8 Freelander last night and it made an amazing difference to the way it drives.
For the sake of a few quid it is false economy not to.
