on the 300 the safari enters the air box via the side and the original hole is plugged, the southdown enters via the original hole...
if you are going to fit a second battery for a winch, and want a southdown, you will want to replace the 300 air box with a 200 cylinder style one, so you can get the second battery in.

The southdown kit will link directly to your airbox creating a better seal. from steel pipe to flexi which goes straight into the airbox. Southdown make superb kit and if your fitting a roll cage at a later date. The Safari will not work.
The safari on a disco makes a good seal, granted. much better than that designed for a defender. But my money would be on the Southdown.

ive looked in to it and for a safari paddock is the cheapist at £169 all in
got a list of prices from 15 companys!
but i dont like paddock they r feckers

look at the standard ''raised air intakes'' they are effectivly the same as a safari but alot cheaper

A Land Roving friend who has just disapeared to Falkland Islands told me he fitted a DIY snorkel to his 300Tdi diesal using pipes and tubes bought from a DIY shop. Can anybody post a step by step instruction plan for this as there must be people on here who have done this too?

(this was copied off another site by the way, and this is for a disco v8 but it should help abit)
Here are the parts required:
Mushroom Top 1
68mm Drainpipe 1
90° Bend 1
45° Bend 4
Flexi Pipe from Air Intake Valve on Range Rover 1984 (Part No.613519) 1
Flexi Pipe from Vauxhall (Scrap Yard) 1
Flexi Pipe from Citreon? (Scrap Yard) 1
Large Jubilee Clips 7
Marley Solvent Cement KS2 1
Flat Bracket 2
Angle Bracket 1
Edge Trim 1 Metre
Rivets 10
Its worth noting that the short lengths of pipe are useful for connecting bends. The bends do not joint together directly but with a little careful measuring and a few attempts at cutting a STRAIGHT cut I found that short pieces did the job.
On the outside, working down from the mushroom top we have a 45° bend, a straight length, a piece of flexi intake pipe (left over from a planned rebuild on my old Classsic. Its a new part through Land Rover Classic Parts trouble is they come in bags of ten but I think the bag only cost me about £7 and I have 8 left!), a straight piece for along the wing and finally a 90° bend that once the wing is cut, will link up with the engine bay half.
To support the snorkel I found a couple of brackets at the local DIY store (B&Q but Im sure others have something similar) two flat ones about 100mm x 40mm that slot nicely behind the A pillar and still allow the door to operate unhindered. These will be used to support the top part of the snorkel. A single angle bracket will support the section along the wing. Im not planning to drill into the pipe to fix, rather Ill use jubilee clips in the hope theyll be strong enough.
All of the drainpipe is cemented together with Marley Solvent Cement that essentially welds the plastic of each piece together providing a watertight seal.

£15 from B&Q. Black guttering down pipe and a couple of elbows with a tube of silicon sealer and bosh... one raised air intake. If you wana be posh you can buy the mushroom tops from craddocks for about a tenner.

I beg to differ.... tried running mine on it and ended up changing a rod.
My advice GET A SNORKEL.

So long as you get a water tight seal and the inlet is above water level you shouldn't have a problem. Use more silicon or plastic weld on the joints.
unless yu stick a filter on top of the snorkel
