removed swivel ball. however when tapping holes on axle Tap Snapped in hole. how the F** K do I get it out. patience is running out as this is third afternoon doing job. Please any help gratefully received.

How deep in? Can you weld a nut to it and back it out? Small centre punch and hammer to drive it round ? If not, spark eroder....google for a local engineer who has one.....but they may have trouble getting to it.

There IS a special welding stick available for this....
welding rods for extracting studs, broken taps, bolts, etc | eBay UK

havent tried it myself . Is there no way to get a punch to the flutes of the tap to knock it back round ?

Its the best option, with plenty of oil to ease the way, maybe some heat one the surrounding area to expand it,lots of rest breaks for sanity and hope it doesnt need to be spark eroded. I have heard of people shattering them but wouldnt advise it unless you really want problems plus a helicoil after.

If you have access to the flutes but no bit of the tap proud of the hole....are the flutes large enough to let a machine screw down ? Make a tool by drilling holes in a piece of bar and bolting two screws through that fit down flutes, like a letter "F"....and thus wind back ?

sorry, thats about all I can think of bar the welding

when tapping you must turn back 1/2 turn for every turn to clean tap ,hit it out it will break as hole is open both ends

I just assumed (never wise !) that it was a blind hole cos it always is when it happens to me !

most are ,taps arent best tool for cleaning threads either buy thread chaser or make one as you suggested

....and THATS why I make chasers instead of using taps, these days....learned the hard way !
